About the author
John Schauble grew up and still lives surrounded by the threat of bushfire on the Dandenong Ranges east of Melbourne. He has been a volunteer firefighter and community educator with the Country Fire Authority of Victoria for more than 20 years. A senior journalist with The Age in Melbourne‚ he has broad experience as a newspaper reporter and editor‚ both in Australia and overseas‚ serving as China correspondent for The Age and The Sydney Morning Herald from 2000 to 2002. His extensive writings on bushfires and emergency management have won a number of awards. He holds degrees in law‚ Australian history and international relations from the University of Melbourne and recently completed a Bachelor of Social Sciences (Emergency Management) at Charles Sturt University.
