The books in the set are:

• Dizzy - Dizzy's mum left when she was very small. But, on each and every birthday, she would receive a present or card in the post with her mum's big, loopy writing on it. But this year is different - nothing comes in the post. However, something does arrive on her doorstep which will put her whole life into a spin.

• Indigo Blue - Indie's mum loves the colour blue. Blue is the colour of her favourite things - bluebirds, bluebells, the sky. So much so that she named her children Indigo and Misty - shades of blue, special colours, magical colours. Indie loves her mum. But blue isn't always a happy colour - and there's a lot of sad stuff in her mum's life.

• Driftwood - Hannah and Joey have been best friends for ever. Joey's parents love rescuing things and making them beautiful - their house is full of things made from driftwood, old glass and shells from the beach. Which is why the scraggy kittens the girls find in a bin at school end up living there.

• Scarlett - Scarlett's not red like a sunset, she's red with rage. She cannot believe her mum's sunk so low as to pack her off to Ireland to stay with the dad who left them. Surely he's the reason for everything going wrong, her never being able to stay in a school, rules always just, somehow, seeming to get broken? Ha! They won't get round her so easily.

• Sundae Girl - Jude's family are crazy, quirky and bizarre. Her mum brings her nothing but trouble and her dad thinks he's Elvis. All she wants is a hassle-free life - but it's not easy when she's chasing a trail of broken promises. Things go from bad to worse, but could the floppy-haired boy from school be her knight on shining rollerblades?

• Lucky Star - Mouse is doing his best to stay out of trouble. Cat is doing her best to land herself in it. They've both had it pretty tough so when they meet by chance they thank their lucky stars. Weird and wonderful things happen when they're together - but how long can it last?

About the author

Cathy Cassidy (born 13th June 1962 in Coventry, UK) is a British author of young adult fiction, mainly focusing on domestic fiction. She wrote her first picture book for her little brother when she was eight or nine, and made comics with pages of picture stories, features and competitions which she would sell for 5p, then take back, then sell again, 'as there were no photocopiers back then!'
Cathy attended Art College in Liverpool, before landing a job as fiction editor on Jackie magazine. Cathy was the agony aunt on teenage Shout magazine for 12 years and for many years taught art in local primary schools, but is now a full-time author. She has written eleven books.

Cathy lives in the Galloway Hills in Scotland with her family. She has a pink Volkswagon Campervan, which she uses to tour up and down the county in promoting her books.
